David Duval has snubbed the £3 million American Express World Championship at
Valderrama, which starts on Thursday to go fishing.
The American world number two is one of a number of top players that will
miss the tournament. Apart
from Payne Stewart, who was killed a week ago in a plane crash,
fellow Americans Mark O'Meara, Fred Couples and Steve Stricker and Australian
Greg Norman are also likely to be absent.
Davis Love III may also add to the list yet to confirm his entry following further back problems at this weekends Tour Championship.
Duval said: "I've always said golf was not my first priority and I've
always felt I had my priorities in the right order and what
happened this week confirmed my priorities."
"I will do a little
fishing and probably a little hunting and I will work out.
The Ryder Cup took what little I had left out of me and I want to get
focused and ready for next year. I want to try to have a better run at the
majors."
