Dodds shoots record 67 to lead by one

Queensland's Grant Dodd hit a course record six-under-par 67 to take the lead on the opening day of the Players Championship at the Royal Queensland Golf Club on Thursday.

Dodd held a one-shot lead over fellow Australians Brett Rumford, a 22-year-old amateur, and Grant Kenny, with Lucas Parsons, Paul Gow and Scott Laycock one shot further back on four under.

A host of players, including Craig Parry, Scotland's Raymond Russell and defending champion Stephen Leaney were locked on 70.

Australian Open champion, amateur Aaron Baddeley, struggled to a one-over-par 74 after being four over the card at one stage during his round.
