Myanmar's Kyi Hla Han was confirmed
as the Asian PGA Davidoff Tour Order of Merit champion Friday in the season-ending
Omega PGA Championship, after the only man capable of catching him, American
Gerry Norquist, missed the halfway cut.
Han cruised in with a 3-under-par
69 at Mission Hills Golf Club to secure the Merit list award and lies six
strokes behind halfway leader Felix Casas of the Philippines.
Casas moved in front with a 66
to lead the $500,000 event on 11-under-par 133 by two shots from South
African Nico Van Rensburg and American Eric Meeks.
"Following Gerry's 77 yesterday,
I figured I had the title," said Han "After the round today, he congratulated
me on what a great year I have had. He said he would look forward to catching
up with me in Europe next year.
"It's a relief to have won, but
I am very focused on winning this week. Every time I tee it up now against
the best players in the world, I have the confidence to try and beat them.
My goal next year will be to try and win a big tournament early on in the
year. I have a lot of hard work ahead of me, but I feel very confident
now. I am going to try and get a lot fitter and work on my diet."
