Felix Casas of the
Philippines and South African Nico Van Rensburg finished the day tied for
the lead after Saturday's third round of the $500,000 Omega PGA Championship
at Mission Hills Golf Club.
Casas, the overnight
leader, shot a 1-under-par 71 over the Jack Nicklaus-designed World Cup
course, while his playing partner, Van Rensburg, fired a 69.
The pair stand at
12-under-par 204 and lead by a stroke from Scotland's Simon Yates and Americans
Fran Quinn and Eric Meeks.
"I felt like I was
rushing a bit today, as I was a little nervous out there," said Van Rensburg,
who won the Volvo Masters of Malaysia in August. "I just need to slow things
down a bit in the final round. Luckily for me the course favours the long
hitters. If you look at the leaderboard, you can see a lot of good ballstrikers
there."
Casas has yet to win
on the Davidoff Tour. He lost in a sudden-death playoff at the Ericsson
Classic last year in Taiwan and by a stroke at the 1996 Honda City Invitational.
"I played very well
today except for a few pushed middle irons; I need to hit a few balls on
the practice range to sort it out," said Casas. "I am very positive about
my chances tomorrow."
