Dawson
to replace Bonnallack at R&A
Peter Dawson has been named
to replace Michael Bonallack as secretary of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club.
The Scotland-born Dawson
will join the Royal and Ancient on June 1 and will work alongside Bonallack until
he steps down on Sept. 14.
Dawson holds an advanced degree
in engineering and business studies. A statement from the Royal and Ancient said
Dawson has over 25 years experience at the "chief executive level" in large private
and public companies.
Bonallack has been the
Royal and Ancient secretary since 1983 and joined the organisation in 1960.
"I am confident that Peter
will build upon the excellent achievements and relationships throughout the world
of golf that Michael has developed during his tenure," said Ian Webb, chairman
of the general committee of the Royal and Ancient.
The Royal and Ancient,
and its American counterpart the United States Golf Association, sets the rules
of golf and also runs the Open Championship, the oldest of golf's four majors.
