David Duval is ready for US Open

Even though David Duval finished six strokes behind Tiger Woods in the Memorial Tournament on Sunday, Duval said he's primed for the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 in two weeks.

"I'm real close to having everything where I want it," Duval said after his 2-under 70 left him tied for third at Muirfield Village Golf Club. "If I play as well as I did this week or even a little bit better, I'll be pretty pleased."

Duval said he was never able to make the one shot he needed to apply pressure to Woods, who played in the group behind Duval.

"I was right where I wanted to be through eight holes," said Duval, who trailed by four shots at that point. "I had a good look at No. 9, a good look at No. 10. But they weren't as close as I would have liked. Those might have made a difference."

Behind Woods by five strokes to start the round, Duval said Woods' superlative play -- he shot a final-round 69 to finish at 15-under 273 -- never left an opening.

"You have to balance being aggressive and being stupid," Duval said. ``I choose to make 15-footers instead of forcing shots in there. ... I just didn't make shots."
