Gallagher resigns from European Tour

Three-time Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher has resigned as a director of the PGA European Tour.

Gallacher, a board member since its inception in 1984, has taken a swipe at the move towards payment for players who miss the cuts in tournaments.

"The players have never had it so good yet seem to want more and more," he said.

The 50-year-old added: "The Tour has got where it has by the efforts of the elite. The best players have led the way and the rest have benefited from increased sponsorship and prize money. But you have to win your benefits.

"At the end of the day you can't pay people for missing cuts. It would be rewarding mediocrity. Golf is all about winning and losing. It always has been. It always should be," he told the Daily Mail.
