Tiger Woods, the
reigning PGA champion, will return to defend his title as part of an elite
foursome comprised of the year's major champions in the Grand Slam of Golf,
to be held at Poipu Bay Resort Golf Course and Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort
and Spa in Hawaii from November 23-24.
Woods, who captured
the 81st PGA Championship last month at Medinah, will headline the $1 million
event, which was moved back one week to accommodate the schedules of the
major champions.
Masters titlist Jose
Maria Olazabal, U.S. Open champ Payne Stewart and British Open winner Paul
Lawrie will also make the trek to Hawaii to battle Woods, the world's top-ranked
player.
Woods will face the
fourth-seeded Lawrie in the first round, while the second-seeded Stewart
takes on the third-seeded Olazabal. The opening matches will take place
on November 23, while the winners will meet the following day; as will
the first-round losers, who will take part in a third-place match.
Woods, the 1997 Masters
champion, will be making his third consecutive appearance at the tournament,
after being selected as an alternate last year.
