Sports Illustrated win
most of GWAA writing awards
Sports Illustrated dominated
the annual writing contest by the Golf Writers Association of America, sweeping
the news category for non-dailies and winning six out of nine possible awards.
Rick Reilly led the way
for SI in the non-daily division by winning the column and features categories,
along with a third-place finish in columns. Reilly has finished first in four
of the last five years of the contest.
In the daily division, Ron
Green, Jr. of the Charlotte Observer won first-place in news for his account
of the worst player in the Dupont World Handicap Tournament. Green also won the
the daily news category in 1989 while working for the Greenville News.
The winners will be honoured
at the GWAA annual awards banquet April 7 in Augusta, Ga.
