Azinger/Pak pull fours shots clear

Paul Azinger and South Korea's Pak Se-ri combined for a nine-under-par 62 in Saturday's best-ball format to seize a four-stroke lead after three rounds of the $2 million JCPenney Classic.

Entering the day tied for the lead with first-round co-leaders John Daly and Laura Davies, Azinger and Pak combined for an eagle on the 572-yard 14th and seven birdies on the day for a 22-under-par 191 total.

Scott Gump and Sweden's Maria Hjorth were four shots back at 18-under 195 after carding a bogey-free 65. The long-hitting duo of Daly and Davies shot 67 and stood five strokes off the pace.

Five teams, including defending champions Steve Pate and Meg Mallon, and Justin Leonard and LPGA Hall of Famer Juli Inkster, were six back at 16-under 197.

The tournament reverts back to an alternate-shot format for Sunday's final round.

The 72-hole event, which may not be in next year's calendar, features 52 tandems comprised of an LPGA and PGA member. PGA players invited their playing partners this year, an honor that alternates each year between the tours.

The Westin Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course is a par-71 layout measuring 7,230 yards for the men and 6,705 yards for the women.

The winning team receives $440,000 and the runners-up $230,000.
