On Thursday Montgomerie
announced he would be cutting down his appearances in the US next season.
Europe's top player was
badly heckled at the Ryder Cup in Boston last month, and, could play as
few as only six events in the States in the 2000.
"I don't get excited
about going to play over there," said Montgomerie.
"I don't need these
personal insults. I just don't need them.
"I don't know what
it's going to be like when I next go back, but hopefully I don't have to
prove anything to anybody over there. So why put myself through all of
that?"
