James back Monty for a major this year

Colin Montgomerie has been tipped to break his Major duck before the end of the year by Ryder Cup Captain Mark James.

Monty stormed to victory on Sunday in the Benson & Hedges International - even though he hadn't picked up a club for three weeks.

And the astonishing ease of his four-shot triumph in a top-class field brought a glowing tribute from European Ryder Cup captain Mark James, who said Monty will be his leading man against the USA later this year.

"Only one man could have done what Monty did, and that's Monty himself," said James, at the opening of the 7m Wentwood Hills course in Newport, which has bid for the 2009 Ryder Cup.

"I can see him winning his first Major soon. He has been so close before. This could be his year."
