PGATourstarTigerWoods,the
Senior Tour's Bruce Fleisher and Bob Heintz of the Nike Tour have been
named Players of the Month for October.
Woods,whoiscomingoff winning the American Express
ChampionshipinaplayoffonSunday,wontwice this month, also
capturing the National Car Rental Golf Classic. He won his lastthree
starts,alsofinishingfirstintheWorldGolf Championships in
August. He won a total of eight tournaments in 1999 - themostsince
JohnnyMiller'seightin1974. He is also the fastest to the $10
million career earnings mark in his career and wasalsoawardedthe
Vardon Trophy for best scoring average.
This is the third time that Woods has won the Player of the Month
award this year, also claiming it in February and August.
Fleisher is also a three-timewinneroftheaward(February,
June).Hewon the Transamerica and the Kaanapali Classic in October.
As a rookie, he won seven tournaments, tying Bruce Crampton (1986) and
LeeTrevino(1990)for most wins by a rookie on the Senior Tour. He
won the Senior Tour money title with $2,515,705,becomingthefirst
rookie since Trevino in '90 to lead the tour in earnings.
Heintz won the Nike Tour Championship for his second title of the
year,alsocapturingthe Shreveport Open in April. The award is his
second of the year, as he also won it in April. His winattheNike
Championship makes him eligible for the PGA Tour in 2000.
