O'Meara may miss season's finale

Out-of-form Mark O'Meara said on Tuesday he may skip next month's World Golf Championship at Valderrama.

The 1998 Masters and British Open champion's form has dipped significantly this year but he is hoping for an improvement when he defends his World Matchplay title at Wentworth this week.

"You have to drive the ball straight at Valderrama and if I don't see signs of an improvement here and at the Disney tournament next week I won't go," he said.

O'Meara said some top American players were uneasy at the timing of the Valderrama event from November 4-7. It comes just one week after the U.S. Tour Championship and its European equivalent, the Volvo Masters.

"But I think the majority will go," he added.

Previously, those two events have decided the leaders on each Tour for the year. This year both will be decided a week later at Valderrama.

The three new world championship events on this year's schedule were introduced to meet a call for more opportunities for the top players from all tours to compete against each other at events other than the four majors.
