Parnevik warns rookie Ryder Cup players

Jesper Parnevik has warned Europe's Ryder Cup rookies to expect the toughest week of their sporting lives and wants Colin Montgomerie to act as a father figure.

Parnevik, one of captain Mark James' wild-card picks, believes the seven debutants will have to be at their best to have any chance of retaining the trophy.

"Having so many newcomers will make it a very difficult task to win," said the Swede. "We don't have the Faldos, Woosnams, Langers - we have lost our major winners.

"I played for the first time two years ago and found it very difficult. You have no idea what to expect and you are nervous the whole week.

"Not only do we have seven rookies, but Lee Westwood, Darren Clarke and myself have only played once. "Colin Montgomerie must take over the role of the rock. He must be our playing captain and I think he will be quite happy to do that."
