Hendeson suffers second round collapse

Scott Henderson, 'Rookie of the Year' in 1997 said he felt like giving up golf on Thursday. Henderson shot an 83, to lie 20 shots back from the leader.

"I don't know what I'm going to do if I don't make it," he said.

"I feel like quitting the game right now."

Henderson who won £70,000in the 1997 European Mastersand finished 42nd on the Order of Merit. In 1999 however, despite playing in 33 events, he amassed £17,658, finishing 167th. Henderson, like other before him have suffered by trying to improve his swing

"I'm still recovering from a lot of damage done - in hindsight it's the worst thing I've ever done," he said. Adding

"That's the most bad luck I've ever had in my life," he added after a round which contained a triple bogey and two doubles.

"I had two of the most bizarre things that have happened to me.

"It was frightening and I ended up laughing about it."

It was probably either that or crying.

On the first hole he suffered a lost ball, despite only hittinga lob shot about 20 yards, and then on the 10th going out of bounds after his slightly wayward tee shot deflected 90 degrees of a tree branch and bounced over the out of bounds wall off of a path.

Justin Rose, improved his chances no end with a 69 adding to his first round 74."I didn't play great, but my aim was to get under par and I did." he said.
