Eight former European Tour winners bit the dust as the qualifying school in Spain reached a crucial stage.
Welshman Mark Mouland, an ever-present on the tour since 1984, looked on course to survive the fourth-round cut until he bogeyed the penultimate hole.
Other winners out are English quartet Gordon J Brand, David J Russell, Jeff Hall and Mike McLean. plus Swedes Peter Hedblom and Ove Sellberg and South
African Clinton Whitelaw. Former Dubai Desert Classic champion Wayne Westner and
1992 Jersey Open champion Daniel Silva retired before the fourth round.
Alistair Forsyth leads into the final two round. After a superb 69, he said: "I'm not enjoying it at all. I don't think it's supposed to be
enjoyable and I don't think it's possible.
"I'd rather be in my position now, of course, but there's no way you can
relax at all. You are going to feel pressure wherever you are and you can make a
double or triple bogey with one bad shot. There's still a long, long way to
go."
