Australian Craig Parry fired a
course record equalling eight-under-par 64 to claim a runaway
five stroke victory in the South Australian Open golf tournament
in Adelaide on Sunday.
Parry started the day trailing Scotland's Raymond Russell by
a shot but an outward nine of five-under-par 32, compared with
Russell's 36, gave him a three-shot lead that the Scotsman could
not pin back.
Parry finished at 274, 14 under par, after three earlier
rounds of 70 on the Kooyonga Golf Club course. Russell closed
with a 70 to finish at nine-under 279.
It was Parry's first tournament victory since the Coolum
Classic in December 1997, also on the Australasian PGA Tour.
New South Welshman Peter O'Malley was a shot behind Russell
in third place after a five-under-par.
Victorian David McKenzie, who started the day level with
Parry at six-under, crashed out of contention with a six-over 78.
The Australasian tour moves on to the Australian Open at the
Royal Sydney Golf Club, beginning on Thursday.
