Dale Reid to captain European Solheim Cup team

The European LPGA has announced that Scotland's Dale Reid has been appointed captain of the European team for next year's Solheim Cup.

Reid will become the first Solheim Cup player to lead the European team when the sixth staging of The Solheim Cup tees off at Loch Lomond Golf Club on October 6, 2000.

"It's a great honor for me to be chosen as Europe's captain for The Solheim Cup at Loch Lomond next year," said Reid, whose last European Tour victory came in the 1991 Bloor Homes Eastleigh Classic.

"Having played in four Solheim Cups myself, I know exactly what is expected of the players, the pressures they will have to deal with, and the strengths of each individual team member."

"She has vital experience gained from playing in four Solheim Cups, including the victorious European team of 1992, and has competed at the highest level on a regular basis in both Europe and America," said Tim Howland, Chief Executive, European LPGA.

The 40-year-old from Ladybank will need to draw on all the experience gained from 21 victories on the Ladies' European Tour as she leads Europe in search of their second victory over the Americans.

Reid takes over captaincy from Sweden's Pia Nilsson.

Pat Bradley, a member of the LPGA Hall of Fame and the winner 31 LPGA events, will lead the American team. Like Reid, Bradley becomes the first American captain to have competed as a player in The Solheim Cup.
