The PGA Tour has created the Payne Stewart Award for the player who best represents the ideals of the two-time US Open champion, commissioner Tim Finchem said here today.
The award will be presented each year at the Tour Championship.
Stewart, known for his plus-fours and tam o'shanter cap, was among six people killed on October 25 the week of the season-ending Tour Championship when his LearJet flew uncontrolled across the country and crashed in South Dakota.
Finchem said the recipient must represent what Stewart stood for, such as professionalism, presentation, character, community work and charity.
It will be voted upon by a panel selected by the commissioner's office.
