American Fran Quinn made up for the bitter disappointment of narrowly failing to earn his United States PGA Tour card by winning the $200,000 Mittweida Thailand Open on Saturday.
Quinn, a runner-up on four occasions on the Asian PGA Davidoff Tour, finally tasted victory in Asia after closing with a 1-under-par 71 to finish the tournament on 13-under-par 275.
"It was a lot of fun out there," said Quinn, who failed to win his PGA Tour card by two strokes at last week's Qualifying Tournament after double-bogeying two holes on the back nine in the final round. "This is certainly some consolation for missing out on my U.S. (PGA) Tour card. I played really well for the first three days here, but did not play as well today. My back nine was very solid though."
"I was very disappointed having played so well on the Nike Tour (BUY.COM Tour) this year," he said. "I played real solid. My wife was a big help to me after missing my card twice. She said it would do my heart good to come over here and play in Thailand. She was absolutely right."
The Asian Tour heads to China next week for the season-ending $500,000 Omega PGA Championship at Mission Hills Golf Club, Shenzhen.
