New Europe
captain Sam Torrance is not in favour of players being paid to
play in the Ryder Cup.
After his appointment for the 2001 clash against the United
States was announced on Wednesday, the Scot made it clear he
would not want his players to get money.
"I know it's right (not to be paid). It's tradition. We have
never been paid to play in the Ryder Cup," Torrance said.
"If they want to give 100,000 pounds ($159,900) to each
player's personal charity, that's fine. But the players, as
individuals, do not need to be paid. You are part of a team that
is pretty prestigious."
