New European
captain Sam Torrance said on Wednesday he would like to see Nick
Faldo in his team for the 2001 match against the United States.
"Nick is probably the greatest golfer we have ever produced.
If he can get his game half in shape he will be in the team,"
Torrance told a news conference after his appointment.
Britain's Faldo, winner of six majors, was the mainstay of
11 European teams but missed out on a wild card selection for
September's Cup match, lost 14-1/2 to 13-1/2 by Europe.
"I'd like to see Faldo in the team," said Torrance. "It's
certainly possible. Faldo has an aura about him - he's
imtimidating. You know you're playing a golfer. I think he'll
make it."
