Adams Golf proudly
announces the addition of legendary professional golfer Tom Watson to the
Adams tour staff. With more than 30 PGA Tour victories and eight major
championships -- including five British Opens, two Masters and one U.S.
Open -- Watson is indisputably one of the most successful players in tour
history. The agreement with Adams calls for Watson to carry a full line
of Adams woods, including the SC Series™ Spin Control driver and Tight
Lies® fairway woods. Under the terms of the agreement, Watson also intends
to play Adams' irons, which are currently in the prototype development
stage. In addition, he will wear an Adams hat and carry an Adams staff
bag.
Watson plans to begin
using Adams equipment when he makes his Senior PGA Tour debut on September
10 at the Comfort Classic in Indianapolis.
Adams Golf's Chairman,
CEO and President Barney Adams stated, "We're elated to have been selected
by a professional of Tom's stature to represent Adams Golf. Throughout
his impressive career, Tom has exhibited the integrity, strength of character
and unwavering commitment of a true champion, both on and off the course.
Furthermore, when I first mentioned our discussions with Tom to Nick Faldo,
he urged me to pursue an agreement. Nick has great respect for Tom and
his game."
"I've played with
the same clubs for 25 years so this was a big decision for me," said Watson.
I always knew Adams' Tight Lies fairway woods were the best in golf, so
that wasn't an issue. I've also been very impressed with the SC Series
driver's ease of control. But when they showed me a prototype set of their
new irons, that clinched the deal."
Chuck Rubin, Watson's
agent, said Watson spent the last year testing many different brands of
golf clubs, but he kept coming back to Adams.
"We signed a long-term
contract because we believe that Adams will continue to introduce great
golf clubs and because we believe Adams Golf is a company whose future
value has been largely unrecognised by the investment community," stated
Rubin. "This was not a case of Adams being the high bidder for Tom, in
fact they were not. We believe in the Company as well as its products and
expect this relationship will be mutually rewarding for both parties."
Tom Watson ranks 11th
on the PGA Tour's all time victory list with 34 official titles. In addition,
he has nine international victories and has been a member of four Ryder
Cup teams as well as being captain of the victorious 1993 team. Watson
also holds three Vardon trophies and has been chosen PGA Player of the
Year six times. His most recent PGA Tour win was in 1998 at the MasterCard
Colonial. Watson is active in a number of charities, including Children's
Mercy Hospital located in his hometown of Kansas City, Missouri.
Watson is the latest
addition to the Adams Golf tour staff, which includes Nick Faldo, Stewart Cink, Dudley Hart, David Frost, Mike Hulbert and John Jacobs.
