New cash bonus for World Golf Championship

Winning a World Golf Championship event is worth $1 million. Playing well in all three of the events could be worth a little bit extra.

The International Federation of PGA Tours announced a new award today called the "Andersen Consulting Medal," which will provide $250,000 to the player who earns the most money from the WGC tournaments.

Andersen Consulting, title sponsor of the Match Play Championship, also will present $250,000 to The First Tee in the winner's name.

Match Play champion Jeff Maggert is leading the race with $1,154,000. Tiger Woods, who won the NEC Invitational at Firestone two months ago, is second with $1,150,000.

The final WGC event is the American Express Championship in Spain in two weeks, a stroke-play event for the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking and top players from the money lists of the five tours that make up the International Federation of PGA Tours.
