A Tiger Woods conflict
could result in a change of dates for this year's PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
PGA of America officials
reported Wednesday the tournament for winners of the four major tournaments
may have to be moved back a week because defending champion Woods has a
commitment to play the same week in the World Cup in Kuala Lumpur.
The Grand Slam, a
36-hole event with a total purse of $1 million, is set for Nov. 16-17
on Kauai, but officials are trying to reschedule. Later dates in November
-- the 23rd and 24th -- are being considered.
"All the parties involved
are in agreement that they want to have the winners of the majors in the
PGA Grand Slam," PGA of America spokesman Julius Mason said.
"We are working on
a date change to avoid any conflicts."
Woods committed to
the World Cup before winning the PGA Championship last month. Others who
have qualified for the Grand Slam include Masters champion José Maria
Olazábal, U.S. Open winner Payne Stewart and Open champion Paul Lawrie.
Ironically Paul Lawrie
had already pulled out of the World Cup once he won the Open, no doubt
in his case the PGA didn't feel warranted in making a schedule change.
