Ian Woosnam has a
double mission in the Sarazen World Open starting on Thursday -- an improvement
from 29th place on the European prize money list and 77th in the world
rankings.
The Briton knows
that drastic action is needed in order to qualify for the lucrative World
Golf Championship series.
"There is some big
money to be played for in the World Golf Championships and at the moment
I don't qualify for them,~ he said.
~I need to get into
the top 20 on the Order of Merit so that I can play in the $5 million
American Express championship at Valderrama next month and to get into
the top 64 in the world rankings to be eligible for the World Match Play
at La Costa next February.
As he prepared to
play at the spectacular new PGA Cataluyna course near Barcelona -- the
event has moved from Atlanta, Georgia, after five years -- Woosnam explained:
~I am playing here, in Belgium next week and the Volvo Masters. I probably
need to win one but I feel I can do really well over the next few weeks
and get back in there. Obviously I want to get into the big tournaments."
