Ian Woosnam has been made president of the World Snooker Association (WSA) after
Lord Archer's resignation on Tuesday.
The WSA were looking for a sports celebrity to take the game into the new millenium and feel that the Welsh golf wizard was the best man for the job.
WSA chairman Mark Wildman said: "The WSA
considers itself fortunate to have attracted as President a sportsman of Ian's
calibre and standing.
We all look forward to working with him."
Woosnam, winner of the 1991 US Masters at Augusta:
"This is a great honour for me. I love snooker and I have some
very good friends in the game. I am looking forward to playing my part in
snooker's new dawn."
