Six players missing from Barclays
Tiger Woods is among six players who qualified but are skipping this week's Barclays Classic, the first of four events in four weeks of the U.S. Tour playoffs culminating in the Tour Championship.
Woods, who leads the FedExCup points list by a wide margin and has already qualified for the Tour Championship field of 30, said he needed a break after winning the WGC-Bridgestone tournament and the U.S. PGA in successive weeks.
Others among the top 144 points earners not competing in the tournament at Westchester Country Club starting no Thursday are Bernhard Langer of Germany (number 59 on the list), Canadian Stephen Ames (64), Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal (96) and Americans Jason Bohn (126) and Ryan Palmer (133).
Langer is playing in this week's Dutch Open, Ames (back), Olazabal (knee) and Bohn (rib) are nursing injuries, and Palmer is missing because of a family illness.
The top 120 on the points list following the tournament will advance to next week's Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston, where 50 golfers will be eliminated from the season-ending playoffs.
