David Howell to return at the K Club
David Howell, whose appearances have been restricted by a back injury this season, is due to return to tournament golf next week.
The 32-year-old will play in the European Open at the K Club in County Kildare, Ireland, the European Tour said in a news release on Monday.
Howell, who outscored playing partner Tiger Woods on the last day to win the Champions Tournament in Shanghai in November 2005, is returning to the K Club for the first time since featuring in Europe's Ryder Cup victory over the United States last September.
Englishman Howell has not completed a tournament since finishing joint 44th at the U.S. Masters in April.
His long-standing back injury meant he was unable to defend his title in last month's PGA Championship at Wentworth.
The European Open, which carries a prize fund of 2.4 million pounds ($4.80 million), will be played at the K Club's Smurfit course. Last year's Ryder Cup was held on the Palmer course.
