Five skip Deutsche Bank Championship

World number four Ernie Els is among five players who qualified but are skipping this week's Deutsche Bank Championship, the second event in the PGA Tour's lucrative four-tournament season finale.

South African Els, who lies 10th in the FedExCup points list, withdrew on Tuesday after deciding to return to his home in Wentworth, England to help his children prepare for the new school year.

Others among the top 120 points earners not competing this week at the TPC Boston are American Scott Verplank (number 15 on the list), Germany's Bernhard Langer (joint 59th), American Tom Lehman (87) and Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal (98).

Verplank has taken this week off to rest, Langer is making his seniors Champions Tour debut in the First Tee Open at Pebble Beach and Olazabal is nursing a knee injury.

Lehman did not give a reason to the PGA Tour when he pulled out of the event on Tuesday.

The leading 70 players in the standings after the Deutsche Bank Championship will qualify for next week's BMW Championship in Chicago, where 40 golfers will be eliminated from the season-ending playoffs.

The Deutsche Bank Championship starts on Friday.
