Only five pretenders to FedEx throne
Following Tiger Woods' brilliant victory at the BMW Champioinship,
firing a bogey-free final round 63 to win by two, only five players
can now mathematically win the FedEx Cup next Sunday at East Lake
- Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker, Rory Sabbatini and
K.J. Choi (click here
for the full standings after the BMW Championship).
The permutations for these five contenders, were any of them to
win, are these:
If either Woods or Stricker wins The Tour Championship, they are
guaranteed to win the FedEx Cup.
If Mickelson wins in Atlanta, Woods would beat him by 20 points
with a second place finish on his own.
For either Sabbatini or Choi to win the FedEx trophy, they must
win the Tour Championship, plus, in Sabbatini's case, Woods must
finish 14th or lower, while for Choi, Woods must finish lower than
22nd. However, points earned by either Stricker and Mickelson could
alter either of those calculations.
