Henrik Stenson targets Order of Merit title

Henrik Stenson said on Tuesday he had a burning desire to claim the European money-list title for the first time in his career.

"With the start I have had and the position I am in, it is definitely one of my highest priorities to try and win the order of merit," the Swede told reporters as he prepared for the PGA Championship at Wentworth which starts on Thursday.

"I am in a nice position and I hope I can stay there all season long," said Stenson who tops the money-list with earnings of 1.61 million euros from seven tournaments played.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a spectacular start to the year by winning the Dubai Desert Classic and the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Tucson, Arizona.

But the world number seven acknowledged his form had suffered a dip since his title double in February.

"I haven't been playing that great," said Stenson, who divides his time between Europe and the United States. "It has not been poor but it has not been great either.

"I have had a lot of finishes around 15th and 20th. I have been slow in the calm waters behind the other guys."

Stenson, though, was buoyed by his good finish at last week's Atlanta Classic in Georgia.

"I didn't play fantastic but it is always nice to shoot the lowest round of my week (68) on a Sunday and I got a top-10 finish so I am quite happy with that," he said.

"Hopefully I can have my best PGA Championship so far."

Stenson's previous best display at the European Tour's flagship event came 12 months ago when he finished joint 19th.
