Hideto Tanihara receives Masters invite

Japan's Hideto Tanihara will make his debut at this year's Masters after receiving a special invitation from Augusta National on Tuesday.

Tanihara, a four-times winner on the Japan Golf Tour, is among 18 players set to make their first appearances in the opening major of the year.

One hundred players have been invited to compete at the Masters, including five amateurs, Augusta National Golf Club chairman Billy Payne said in a statement.

"I'm looking forward to an outstanding 2007 Masters," Payne added. "We have a tremendous field and the course is just as we want it. We think that this year will be very special."

Swedes Robert Karlsson and Johan Edfors, India's Jeev Milkha Singh, Colombia's Camilo Villegas and U.S. Ryder Cup player J.J. Henry are among this year's Masters debutants.

The final Masters field will not be decided until the week before the tournament when organisers will extend invitations to the world's top 50 and the leading 10 players on the 2007 PGA Tour money list.

The 71st Masters will take place from April 5-8 when American Phil Mickelson will defend the title he won by two shots earlier this year.
