John Daly added to AT&T National field

Two-time major champion John Daly, coming off his best showing of the season, was a last-minute addition to the field for the inaugural PGA National, tournament officials announced Tuesday.

The 41-year-old US veteran, known for his outspoken manner and long-driving power, joined the 120-play field in place of John Cook, who withdrew with a shoulder injury.

Tim Petrovic was also added to the field of the six million-dollar event hosted by Tiger Woods, replacing fellow US veteran Paul Azinger.

Daly, who won the 1991 PGA Championship and 1995 British Open, has won only once since capturing his second major in a playoff at St. Andrews. Daly is in the final season of tour eligibility from his 2004 Buick Invitational triumph.

He has missed the cut in four of 13 starts and withdrawn three times this season but comes off a share of 16th at last week's Buick Open, his best US PGA showing in two years.

At last month's PGA stop in Memphis, Daly arrived with scratches on his face and claiming his fourth wife, Sherrie, tried to stab him as he slept in bed. Daly finished 79th that week.

Daly's wife was jailed for five months on charges relating to a drug ring and illegal gambling. The couple had filed for divorce last October but a month later Daly said the split was off.
