Australians qualify for Open

Ewan Porter, Peter Fowler, Ben Bunny and Scott Laycock booked their places in this year's British Open at Carnoustie after the Australasian final international qualifying leg finished in Sydney on Tuesday.

Porter headed the four Australians, winning the two-day event with rounds of 66 and 69 for a 36-hole total of 11-under-par, three strokes clear of Fowler who shot a course record 64 at The Lakes in his second round.

Bunny, Laycock and Chris Campbell were tied for third at five-under, forcing into a three-way playoff to decide the last two spots.

Laycock secured his place by winning the first playoff hole with a birdie then Bunny grabbed the second spot with a birdie on the next hole.

There are further international final qualifying events to be held in Singapore, Oakland Hills in the U.S. and Sunningdale in England before the 2007 British Open at Carnoustie from July 19-22.
