Woods wins Wachovia and Mickelson closes in on no. 2 spot

World Number One Tiger Woods won the Wachovia Championship at Quail Hollow CC, finishing at 13-under 275, the lowest score in the five-year history of this event. He opens the gap at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking to 13.16 average points over Jim Furyk who heads Phil Mickelson by just 0.01 average points after the left hander finished tied third at Quail Hollow.

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano of Spain beat Austrian Markus Brier in a play-off for the Telecom Italia Open title, his third European Tour win. The Spaniard's birdie at the second extra hole earned him the title after the pair had finished a stroke ahead of the field on 16 under par 200 in the rain shortened tournament. Fernadez-Castano climbs to World Number 117, up 86 spots, picking up his first World Ranking Points of 2007.

This week's other winners were Jay Williamson at the Fort Smith Classic on the Nationwide Tour, Kim Kyung-Tae at the GS Caltex Maekyung Open on the Nationwide Tour and Adam Bland, winning for a second successive week, at the Ford Culiacan Open on the Canadian Tour.
