Hansen wins BMW PGA and climbs to world no. 49

Anders Hansen from Denmark won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, Surrey, on the first extra hole after he tied on eight under par with Englishman Justin Rose. Hansen's birdie on the 18th in the play-off was enough to deny Rose who had made the play-off with spectacular birdie on the 72nd hole. Hansen climbs to World Number 49, a rise of 102 places and gains qualification into next month’s US Open.

On the PGA Tour Rory Sabbatini won a thrilling three-way playoff with Jim Furyk and 49-year-old Bernhard Langer to win the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. The tournament was plagued by wet weather meaning the final groups had to play 30 holes on Sunday. Sabbatini breaks into the World's Top 15 for the first time with a two spot jump to World Number 14.

In Japan Tetsuji Hiratsuka won the Mitsubishi Diamond Cup at Oarai Golf Club by a stroke from Satoru Hirota and Kiyoshi Miyazato and climbs to World Number 130, an improvement of 39 positions.

This week’s other winners were Paul Claxton at the Melwood Prince George's County Open on the Nationwide Tour, Bae Sang-moon at the SK Telecom Open on the Asian Tour and Ben Mason at the Open Mahou de Madrid on the European Challenge Tour.
