KJ Choi enters top 20 with Memorial victory

KJ Choi (Choi Kyung-ju) from Korea shot a superb closing round of 65 to win the Memorial tournament at Muirfield Village in Ohio. Choi, who was five strokes behind during the final round, charged to the lead with six front-nine birdies before hanging on with a series of clutch putts towards the end. Choi climbs 15 places to World Number 17.

Richard Sterne won The Celtic Manor Wales Open on the European Tour by a single stroke from a group of four players including Mardan Mamat who shot through the field with a final round 62 and Bradley Dredge whose 6 foot putt to force a play-off slipped agonisingly by the hole. Sterne jumps to World Number 35, an improvement of 24 places and claims a spot in the 136th Open Championship.

Tomohiro Kondo won the JCB Classic at Hananomori Golf Club on the Japan Golf Tour and, as happened in Wales, his victory came by just one stroke over four players. The win helps Kondo jump 48 positions in the Official World Golf Ranking to 136th.

This week's other winners were John Riegger at the LaSalle Bank Open on the Nationwide Tour and Ross McGowan at the Oceanico Developments Pro-Am Challenge on the European Challenge Tour. They move to World Numbers 306 and 346 respectively.
