Dougherty breaks into world top 50 at 47

England’s Nick Dougherty claimed his second European Tour title with a two stroke victory in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship played at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns. Dougherty shot a closing one under par 71 over the Old Course for an 18 under par total of 270 which put him two ahead of fellow Englishman Justin Rose. The win takes Dougherty into the World Top 50 in 47th position an improvement of 53 positions while Rose improves his World Ranking by 2 spots to 11th.

Justin Leonard made a 10-foot birdie putt on the third play-off hole to defeat overnight leader Jesper Parnevik and win the Valero Texas Open on the PGA Tour. This is Leonard's 11th PGA Tour win and takes him to World Number 109, a improvement of 47 positions. Parnevik jumps from World Number 197 to 143.

Former World Number One Vijay Singh captured the Kolon-Hana Bank Korea Open on the Asian Tour after a birdie on the final hole secured a two stroke victory over Korea’s Kim Kyung-tae and Yang Yong-eun at the Woo Jeong Hills Country Club. Despite dropping a place in the World Ranking to 13th, due to Justin Rose's second place finish in Europe, Singh increases his points average such that the gap between him in 13th and Rory Sabbatini in 8th is just 0.26 average points.

This week's other winners were Richard Johnson from Wales at the Mark Christopher Charity Classic on the Nationwide Tour and Peter Baker at the Open AGF-Allianz Côtes d’Armor Bretagne on the European Challenge Tour.
