Paul Goydos birdied the Par 5 18th hole for a one stroke victory
over Luke Donald and Charles Howell-III at the Sony Open in Hawaii
at Waialae Country Club, Honolulu.
Goydos last won on the PGA Tour eleven years ago and late in the
2006 season he dramatically saved his Tour card with a tied second
place at the Chrysler Championship. His win in Hawaii takes him
to World Number 39, an improvement of 95 positions.
Luke Donald's second place finish moves him up three spots from
10th last week to 7th, as Padraig Harrington slips from 7th to 9th
with Retief Goosen remaining in 8th. Geoff Ogilvy drops from 9th
to 10th, despite finishing tied for eighth at the Sony.
Argentina's Ariel Canete captured his maiden European Tour title
with three birdies in the final four holes to become the inaugural
winner of the Joburg Open at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf
Club, an event co-sanctioned between the Sunshine Tour and European
Tour. Canete leaps 226 places in the Official World Golf Ranking
to 212th.
