Solheim Cup squad takes shape

Annika Sorenstam, Suzann Pettersen, Catriona Matthew and Sophie Gustafson have secured their selection for The 2007 European Solheim Cup Team as the top four Europeans on the Rolex World Rankings, not already qualified from the European points' standings.

Sweden's Sorenstam (3), Norway's Pettersen (6), Scotland's Matthew (25) and Sweden's Gustafson (31) will join the five automatic selections from the Ladies' European Tour rankings, which were finalised yesterday at the conclusion of the S4C Wales Ladies Championship of Europe.

The five qualifiers from the European Solheim standings are Gwladys Nocera, from France, England's Trish Johnson, Germany's Bettina Hauert, England's Laura Davies and Wales' Becky Brewerton.

Hauert secured her place with a tie for second in the S4C Wales Ladies Championship that lifted her from ninth to third in the rankings. Brewerton, the second European debutante, was fifth in the rankings and becomes the first Welsh Solheim Cup player.

The current nine members of the European Team represent seven different nations: England, France, Germany, Norway, Scotland, Sweden and Wales.

European skipper Helen Alfredsson will announce her three captain's picks at a press conference in Stockholm, Sweden at midday tomorrow.

The 2007 Solheim Cup takes place at the Halmstad Golfklubb in Sweden from 14-16 September.

The United States team will be finalised in one week, at the conclusion of the Safeway Classic presented by Pepsi in Portland, Oregan, USA.

The Top Nine European team members as follows:
