Tiger widens lead over Furyk to almost twelve average points
Tiger Woods, the world number one, won the Buick Invitational for
the third straight year and for a fifth time in total as he completed
a six-under-par final round of 66 beating Charles Howell-III by
two strokes at Torrey Pines Golf Course, La Jolla, California. It
was his seventh straight PGA Tour victory and puts him second in
the all-time record of winning streaks, behind Byron Nelson's 11
wins.
The victory helped Woods increase his lead over Jim Furyk at the
top of the Official World Golf Ranking to 11.88 average points.
Retief Goosen collected his 14th European Tour International Schedule
win at the Commercialbank Qatar Masters in Doha where a birdie,
eagle finish hoisted him above playing partner Nick O'Hern whom
he trailed by a shot with one hole to play. Goosen climbs two places
to World Number six and is just four thousandths of an average point
behind Phil Mickelson who lost his World Number four spot to Ernie Els, who finished third in Qatar.
Louis Oosthuizen birdied the final hole to win the Dimension Data
Pro-Am at the Gary Player Country Club on the Sunshine Tour in South
Africa. The win takes the South African to World Number 225.
Miguel Carballo from Argentina won the season opening event on
the 2007 Nationwide Tour, the Movistar Panama Championship. He moves
up to World Number 328.
