Abridge ladies seek your help for Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign Day on July 1

Each year, Abridge Golf & Country Club ladies section holds a charity day for lady golfers, which this year will take place on July 1st.

The ladies of Abridge have an excellent track record of fund raising, and in 2007 presented a cheque for £44,000 to the Parry Foundation, which provides homes for mentally and physically disabled youths so that they can have a level of independance. The money raised equipped a kitchen and two bathrooms for these special needs young people.

This year’s nominated Charity is The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign, in aid of the expansion of the hospital's Medical Day Centre.

For the most part, patients undergoing gruelling chemotherapy treatment can today be treated as outpatients in the Centre, enabling them to go home and sleep in the comfort of their own beds at night. This is all the more important as the hospital is now treating 23% more patients than ever before, due to the alarming increase in cancers.

The target for this year's charity day is to purchase l5 new treatment chairs for the new Medical Day Centre. The existing chairs in the Centre are not ideal as many patients spend several hours at a time sitting in them, receiving treatment. The chairs that the Royal Marsden would like to purchase are fully upholstered, fully adjustable and will provide greater comfort and mobility for the patients whilst they undergo their treatment.

You can read more about the Royal Marsden Hospital's Medical Day Centre and its treatment chairs, and take a virtual tour of the Centre, by clicking here.

Funds are raised mainly by sponsorships, and 136 ladies will be playing at Abridge on the day, all collecting for and contributing to the charity. You can further support their individual efforts in a number of ways.

A brochure is being produced, in which advertisements can be placed at the following rates:

Gold Page - £500
Full page - £250
Half page - £100
Quarter page £50

You can also sponsor a hole and appear in the brochure for £35.

Larger donations are of course very welcome, and banners can also be placed on the course for corporate sponsorships.

In addition there will be a large tombola on the day, and the ladies are seeking 200 prizes of an individual value of at least £20 (the tombola tickets are priced at £10 each).

For more information on how you can support the ladies and this excellent cause, to book an ad in the brochure, send a cheque or deliver your tombola prize, please contact:

The closing date to book a sponsorship is June 10, but donations and prizes are of course welcome right up to July 1. On behalf of the ladies of Abridge Golf & Country Club and the Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign, thank you for your generosity.
