Freak injury setback for Adam Scott

A freak surfing accident has forced Australian Adam Scott to pull out of this week’s Australian PGA championship.

Scott twisted his right knee while swimming in the ocean last weekend and although the injury is not considered serious it has forced him to withdraw from the tournament.

“He was coming out of the surf on Sunday morning and he’s obviously stood in a sand depression,” Scott’s manager Justin Cohen told reporters on Tuesday.

“He went for a body surf and was making his way through the shallow water and twisted his knee a little bit.”

Cohen said Scott, ranked 17th in the world, would undergo precautionary scans but was still hoping to play in next week’s Australian Open in Sydney.

“It’s a very minor, little issue with his knee and we fully expect him to be back in action and ready to go for the Aussie Open next week,” he said.

There was better news for tournament organisers when twice former major winner John Daly confirmed he was extending his stay in Australia to compete in the PGA and Open.

The American missed the cut in last week’s Australian Masters.
