Kenny Perry, who pulled out of this month’s U.S. PGA Championship because of an eye problem, has declared himself fit for this week’s Barclays Classic.
The American, the leading player on the points list in the absence of the injured Tiger Woods, won three titles in eight PGA Tour starts before quitting the year’s last major due to an eye infection.
“I’m excited and it doesn’t hurt. I don’t have any pain. My vision is good again,” Perry told reporters at Ridgewood Country Club on the eve of Thursday’s opening round.
The 47-year-old said his contact lens had scratched his left eye.
“This is my third pair of contacts in my left eye this week and it feels real good and I’m seeing pretty good out of them,” he said.
This week’s event is the opening tournament in the FedExCup playoff series which offers $10 million to the final points leader.
