McIlroy enters top 50 with Lin and Marksaeng just outside

Lin Wen-tang from Taipei won the UBS Hong Kong Open after a thrilling three-way play-off with Rory McIlroy and Francesco Molinari. 19-year-old McIlroy and Lin both birdied the first extra hole, the par-four 18th, to eliminate Molinari, then Lin birdied it again to claim the title. Lin moves to 51st in the Official World Golf Ranking while McIlroy is now 50th, improvements of 41 and 13 positions respectively.

Prayad Marksaeng, who held the overnight lead, shot a final round of 71 for a one stroke victory over Japanese teenager Ryo Ishikawa at the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament at Phoenix Country Club on the Japan Golf Tour. Thai star Marksaeng, who had played in China and Singapore the two previous weeks, held on despite dropping a few shots on his back nine to win and with it moves to World Number 54, a jump of 18 places.
