Seve Ballesteros leaves hospital

Golfing great Seve Ballesteros was released from a Spanish hospital Tuesday, over two months after undergoing surgery to remove a malignant tumor from his brain.

Ballesteros, 51, will continue to be treated as an outpatient, Madrid’s La Paz Hospital said in a statement.

“Today, after a 66-day stay at La Paz Hospital, finally (the) doctors have allowed me some temporary holidays away from the hospital,” said Ballesteros in a statement on his official website, www.seveballesteros.com.

“There is a long recovery time ahead and I shall keep on fighting with patience and determination against the brain tumour that was detected at the beginning of October.”

A five-time major winner, Ballesteros was admitted on October 6 after collapsing at Madrid Airport. He underwent a 6 1/2-hour operation 18 days later to remove the tumor and reduce dwelling around his brain.

Ballesteros won the British Open in 1979, 1984 and 1988 and became the first European to win the Masters in 1980, a title he claimed again in 1983.
