US Open propels Glover into top 20

Lucas Glover claimed a two-shot victory on a dramatic final day which he and Ricky Barnes had started with a five-shot lead over the field at seven under par as the rain-delayed US Open Championship moved into a fifth day at Bethpage Black. At one point the lead was held jointly by Glover, Phil Mickelson and David Duval while England's Ross Fisher also challenged.

Glover clinched his first Major Championship win with a birdie on 16 and pars on the final two holes as his rivals all bogeyed either the 15th or 17th holes or both. Glover moves into the World Top 20 to 18th, a jump of 53 positions and after starting the year as World Number 177.

Singnificant moves by the runners-up saw David Duval leap 740 places to no. 142, Ricky Barnes climb 330 spots to world no. 153 and England's Ross Fisher rise 7 places to no. 22.

Duval was world number 1 for 15 weeks from April 1999, but since his 2001 Open Championship victory and the Dunlop Phoenix title in Japan in late 2001, has largely disappeared from the higher echelons of the game.

This week's other winners were Christian L Nilsson at the SAINT-OMER OPEN presented by Neuflize OBC co-sanctioned by the European Tour and European Challenge Tour and Jason Enloe at the Fort Smith Classic Presented by Stephens Inc. on the Nationwide Tour.
