Stewart Cink wins The Open and returns to world top ten

Stewart Cink claimed his first Major title as Tom Watson missed out on the chance to create history in a dramatic Open Championship at Turnberry. Cink opened with two pars and finished with two birdies in the 4 hole playoff and was too strong for the 59 year old 5 time champion Watson. Earlier Cink had birdied the 72nd hole as his three nearest rivals Watson, Lee Westwood and Chris Wood had bogeyed it.

Cink, whose career highest World Ranking is 5th, jumps back into the World Top 10 with a 24 spot improvement to World Number 9. Tom Watson makes a record leap from world number 1374 to 105.

Bo Van Pelt tied with John Mallinger at 13 under par and then won with a birdie at the second extra hole at the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee. Van Pelt climbs 72 positions to World Number 138.

This weeks other winner was Graham Delaet at the Canadian Tour Players Cup on the Canadian Tour.
